Nature’s first Green is Gold

without comments

yeah I know it’s an old over-used poem, but I can’t help but look at the trees now and hear the words. I shot this

nature's first green is gold

today (plus a few others ) from my back deck.

I know that people say we peaked weeks ago when they talk about leaves and their color, I tend to disagree.

so my EF 100mm f2.8 Macro USM showed up today … so far I’m very pleased. I only had about 10 minutes with it today during my break from class.

… in the smallest of things

There is a simple beauty in the smallest of things. This flower, lovingly grown from seed by my wife is but one example. This summer my wife has put her time, effort and considerable skill to proving the beauty that exists in nature. Examples abound inside and outside of our home.

One of the amazing things about my camera is that it makes me see things that I normally overlook. The wonderful thing is, after I’ve seen something (like this flower) through the lens and I break myself of the habit of saying … yeah it’s a purple flower … I’m free to see how truly lovely it is. After my eye comes away from the prism box, the beauty remains and I don’t need the camera to see it afterwards.

Mr Adams was right … Camera’s are objects that teach us to see without cameras.

Stop, and SEE the beauty that is all around you in your daily life.

There are days and times when I love photography

This weekend was one of them. I took this photo during the mid morning today at Taconic State Park, in Copake Falls NY.

It’s the lifeguard chair on the floating raft in the ore pit. I’ve been going there since I was in diapers and the ore pit still fascinates me, filled with natural spring water, so still, so deep.

The light was right and I whipped off about 8 shots of this chair hoping to get the like of spiders silk blowing in the breeze. When I got home and looked at the photos I found I got more than I asked for, there is an entire web in the first step of the ladder for the chair.

It was a lovely weekend.

An all time favorite

I took this photo on a vacation last year to the Lake Placid area. It is taken from the dock of the Mirror Lake Inn. Funnny thing is it looks so peaceful and quiet while just to the left some workman were demolishing a house with heavy equipment. Proof positive that the camera can tell whatever story that the phtographer wants it to tell.
